Dealing with the Blues

I have begun that terrifying journey called querying. After a hundred versions – I could have written a novel in that many words – I have a query that embraces the heart of my story. It’s time to send Anchoring the Rain out into the world.

To distract myself from the sensation that my guts are slinking under the nearest carpet, I’ve started a new project, plotting a novel currently called Iron Core. I’m also working on deep revisions in Wizard’s Route. I’d written it as two books, but the story line became too weak. So I cut 80,000 words and combined several characters. Now I’m creating new transitions and hunting for scenes that no longer make sense or are out of order.

I must admit, I enjoy editing almost as much as writing, but I adore plotting.

Happy writing, y’all!

  1. Good luck with the querying. I had started a week ago, landed several rejections, and won a 10 page crit by an agent. Apparently my begining is "decent," which mean I have to revise it again. ;)

Good luck with the querying. :D

Thanks, Angela! I really do feel like I'm leaping off a cliff. Where's my bungee cords? ;)

LOL, Lydia! It's hard for me to put bits of myself on the web. I'd much rather go plot. :-D

  11. Hello Deb! New follower here, and all the very best with your querying. I also adore plotting. I rub my hands with glee at plotting! Also love historical research - have to remember to pull myself away from it at times unless I get carried away.

  13. Good luck with everything Deb! And enjoy this plotting journey. Sounds like a cat stalking its prey, which makes me imagine you sneaking up on your novels, leaping out at them and scrambling their characters and plot lines. Take that, and that! :)

  14. Hi Sylvia! LOL! That's a LOT like how it feels, too. But like my old cat, I'm a blind plotter and must feel around for my prey. ;-)
