Query Letter Advice

I've been researching the most effective ways to write a query letter. I thought I'd share with you the posts that caught my attention. In no particular order:

How do I format emailed pages in a query?

  1. What great links! I will have to go back to my query soon, so very useful. Thanks for putting this together.

  2. Great links. Another one I check out on a daily basis is The Public Query Slushpile (openquery.blogspot.com). It's a great place to see what to do and what not to do, and to pay it forward by helping out others. Oh, and I almost forgot about the blog 'Miss Snark's First Victim'. She has query contests and Secret Agent contests all the time to help writers get agented.

  3. Hi Lori! Yes, I'm working on my query, too, so I decided it was time to pull up my list and reread them.

Hi B.E.! I need to check out The Public Query Slushpile - thanks for the link. I waffled on Miss Snark because she retired, but it does have lots of great info.

  4. Hi Deb. I think Miss Snark had the best advice. I also think a great query is one that strays a bit outside the prescribed boundaries. At some point in the letter, you gotta be you.

  5. Hi Stephen. I was afraid Miss Snark might be out of date, given how much the publishing business has tightened up recently. I'll add her to my next list - I've found a few new resources.

  6. LOL, not Miss Snark... Her first victim. The blogger goes by the name of Authoress, and she's at http://misssnarksfirstvictim.blogspot.com/

I've found the stuff there to be very helpful. Esepcially the Secret Agent contests.
